Question: Why don’t the rich do more philanthropy?
They have the means possible, and it wouldn’t hurt them to give of themselves to better other peoples lives. I know Bill Gates and Warren B. are giving, somewhat, but what about all the other Billionaires, and Millionaires??
I’m aware of some of the ultra-rich giving to causes. But what about a majority of them, why sit on all that money when they could be doing so much more. Good response though Jerry, and glad you read, another literate person in the ranks. Any more thoughts?

Question: Why don’t self-proclaimed geniuses use their intellect for philanthropy instead of arrogance?
How about instead, using their intelligence for philanthropic purposes instead of boasting about it and being condescending jerks? Mental poverty is nothing compared to moral poverty.
aunt, good point. Actually what inspired me to write this was from having to deal with a “know-it-all” classmate. You know the type. He acts so condescending towards everyone, including myself, when I’m certain I know about 90% of the facts he knows. The worse kind of egomaniac is one who isn’t all that great to begin with.

People like Haley Barry and other celebrities, and even we normal people who do a lot of charitable work, are said to be “giving back”. I didn’t take anything. I don’t think Halley Barry took anything except what she deserved–a big paycheck and fame, for a job well done.
You don’t have to agree with me. I just want to hear all the various opinions on this.

You misunderstand the phrase, I think.
Giving back means giving back to the community. Because we are successful members of society, we should do our best to help others less fortunate. It isn’t ‘because I earn money, I should give money away’. It is more ‘Because I have been made successful, I should give some of that succcess to others’. It’s kinda hard to explain quickly, this link explains it better :
